Owney Plymouth

Owney was the mascot of the Railway Mail Service in the 1880s and 1890s. After his death he was preserved and is on display at the National Postal Museum in Washington, D.C.

This photograph was taken in Plymouth, New Hampshire. Owney would have been traveling on the Lancaster & Boston R.P.O. No doubt one of the clerks wanted to have Owney’s picture taken and wrote his name on the photograph, on the chair.
